This autumn, the museum is unveiling a new artistic commission dedicated to the history of the château that houses it. Entrusted to artist Nayel Zeaiter, this work aims to provide an overview of the history of the château-museum as a whole, from the impact of the meteorite that fell 200 million years ago to the creation of the institution 40 years ago. Combining text and images, the work covers the entire walls of one of the 18th-century salons on the ground floor. The artist uses the wood panelling to unfold, with rigour and humour, a narrative that combines geology, legends, local and national history, as well as heritage and cultural policies.
Born in Paris in 1988, Nayel Zeaiter lives and works in Paris. Through his practice, he seeks to perpetuate and maintain the genre of history painting. His work ranges from large-format pieces to editorial projects within Éditions Comprendre, which he founded in 2011.
In recent years, the artist has become known for his large-scale printed historical frescoes, such as Histoire du Grand Palais (2021), a work on a 900-metre-long hoarding retracing the history of the Grand Palais during its renovation, and La vie illustrée de l’abbé Suger (2022), a 50-metre-long frieze in the heart of the Basilica of Saint-Denis.
