Simone Fattal – The man who will make a new tree grow

The museum presents the first retrospective of the artist Simone Fattal. From Lebanon to California to Paris, the exhibition retraces more than 40 years of work in which landscape painting, collages, contemporary poetry and primitive sculptures intermingle. The representation of a standing man remains one of the major recurring motifs in his work. The image of a man of resistance, a warrior, has tangible echoes of the turmoil in the Middle East, and retains all its power today. Simone Fattal extends this tangle of temporalities in her collages, or by assembling newspaper cuttings and advertisements with her personal photographs, she brings together Mesopotamian art, trivial current events, historical facts and her own history.
