Les Journées européennes du patrimoine at the Museum

On 20 and 21 September, during “Les Journées européennes du patrimoine” at the Museum, discover the Haute-Vienne Museum of Contemporary Art – Château de Rochechouart – free of charge.

The museum will be fully accessible throughout the weekend. “Les Journées européennes du patrimoine” will be an opportunity to discover the new exhibition on the third floor of the castle, as well as a new historical interpretation room.

This autumn, the museum is inaugurating a new artistic commission dedicated to the history of the castle that houses it. Entrusted to the artist Nayel Zeaiter, this work aims to provide an overview of the history of the castle-museum as a whole, from the impact of the meteorite that fell 200 million years ago to the creation of the institution 40 years ago. Combining text and images, the work covers the entire walls of one of the 18th-century salons on the ground floor. The artist uses the wood panelling to unfold, with rigour and humour, a narrative that combines geology, legends, local and national history, as well as heritage and cultural policies.

The entire third and top floor of the castle is taken over by artist Anne-Lise Coste with her exhibition Pussybilities, Dance Club.
Driven by a rebellious spirit and the subversion of language in the tradition of Dada, the artist often produces her works in a burst of spontaneity and urgency using the materials around her. Here, she plays on the contrast between the historic location and the deliberately contemporary nature of her work: collages, assemblages, neon lights, and a new photographic collaboration. In these former attics marked by a monumental 16th-century wooden framework, the artist imagines an alternative horizon, a place of celebration as much as resistance. She reinvents the imagery of the dance club, a place where individual and collective experiences intertwine, but also a symbol of queer and feminist struggles; a place for all ‘pussybles’.
