Summer 2026 guided tours and workshops: explore, create and share at the Museum

This summer, the Haute-Vienne Museum of Contemporary Art—Château de Rochechouart invites you to enjoy a (re)creative break centered around the exhibition “Le musée en mouvement”. Whether on your own, with family, or with friends, children, teens, and adults are invited to explore a program of workshops combining observation, experimentation, and creative activities. Some workshops will be led by visual artist Maud Garreau and will offer activities designed for all ages.

Drawing, optical illusions, writing or animated storytelling: there are so many ways to explore the artworks whilst giving free rein to your imagination.

Each workshop is preceded by a tour of the château and the “Le musée en mouvement” exhibition, tailored to the workshop’s theme and the participants’ ages.

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITY / INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP

 

Taking a work from the exhibition *Le musée en mouvement* as their starting point, participants will imagine what happens before and after the scene depicted. They will then create a flip book – a small booklet of drawings to leaf through that creates the illusion of movement.

For those who love making up stories and want to draw.

Inspired by the work of Richard Long, CUCKOO CIRCLES: slip as paint and hands as brushes—that’s all it takes to create striking patterns, marks, and traces on large sheets of colored paper.

Come prepare your own slip—a fluid mixture of water and finely ground clay—and explore the qualities of the material, the textural effects, and the interplay of marks with your fingertips or your whole hands.

INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP

Inspired by Daniel Tremblay’s work “Vers luisants”, which transforms rubber sheets into something sublime, this engraving workshop turns a flexible, everyday material into a true act of creation.

Using gouges, participants carve and draw directly into the material to uncover its textures and underlying layers. Here, the engraving does not produce a print: the engraved matrix is the final artwork.

To develop an awareness of the relationship between gesture and surface, and to gain a new perspective on the material and its transformation.
